Notes for John Jacob MILLIRON

Most early records show his surname to be MUHLEYSEN, the German spelling. Per Christina Noring's notes: Jacob MUHLEYSON-MIEHLEISEN-MILLIRON was likely born in Germany (date and place unknown) circa 1730. Jacob and his family were living in Bedford County, Hempfield Township in 1773. The Township in which they were living was part of territory taken out of Bedford County during 1773 to form Westmoreland County. The evolution of Westmoreland County is interesting. Cumberland County was formed out of Lancaster County in 1750 and included all land west of the present county. In 1771 Bedford County was formed out of Cumberland; then Westmoreland County was taken out of Bedford County in 1773.
Jacob Milliron died in Westmoreland County, Hempfield Township, Pa., in the year 1786 before 23 August 1786. One Land Warrant listed below is dated 1 July 1784 and issued to "Jacob Milliron"; the other, dated 23 August 1786 is issued to the "Heirs of Jacob Milliron." Both of these Warrants are mentioned in Pennsylvania Archives, Milliron Records. Jacob was married around 1752 to Anna Ottilia Christena, who was born between 1730 and 1734; died in year 1790:

1785. It was a branch of Sewickley Creek.

On 23 August 1786 a warrant for (220-3/4 A) was
issued to the "Heirs of Jacob Milliron". This lay
in Hempfield Twp. on a branch of Sewickley Creek
and was surveyed on 12 Sept. 1786.
Jacob may have lived in Cumberland County before coming to Bedford County, Hempfield Township. At that time Cumberland County included the present Cumberland, Franklin, Fulton, and Huntington Counties. The first Revolutionary War Record we (Christina Noring) received, states Jacob was a resident of Cumberland County during the Revolution. In Pennsylvania Archives Records Jacob Milliron is listed as -- Taxed in Cumberland County, Hopewell Township during 1779, 1781 and 1782. The second DAR Service Record on Page four states that Jacob served in the Cumberland County Militia during the years 1779, 1781, 1782, 1783.
