Lucile's obituary, dated May 26, 2000:
"Lucile Choate Smith - NASHVILLE - Lucile Choate Smith, 85, died Wednesday (May 24, 2000) after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 28, 1914 in Paris, Tenn., she was the daughter of Daniel Richard Choate and Annie Cribbs Choate. She was raised in Memphis and graduated from the University of Memphis.
She was the widow of John Winston (Pete) Smith Sr., and lived most of her adult life in Kingsport as a homemaker and kindergarten teacher. She was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and UMYF counselor.
She was a charter member of the Overmountain Weavers Guild, a member and officer of the Kingsport Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society, a member of the Audubon Society and the Tennessee Education Association.
Survivors include her sister, Clara Choate Gift, Hermitage, Tenn.; two sons, John W. Smith Jr., Hanahan, S.C., and Thomas C. Smith, Nashville; grandsons, Edward and William Smith, Nashville; granddaughters, Katherine and Michele Smith, Hanahan and Lenora Smith, Nashville; and great-granddaughter, Kali Kirkland, Nashville.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joel Campbell officiating.
Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery."
