Philander married Miss Eliza Caroline Bickley in Greene Co., Dec. 17, 1835. The marriage was performed by Rev. William R. Hinton, M.G. Eliza died June 23, 1836 at the residence of Captain Pease after a short but severe illness. On Feb. 21, 1841, near Tuscaloosa, Captain La Vergy married Miss Mary Virginia Bickley of Greene Co., Eliza's sister. Philander at this time was captain of the steamboat "Hercules". |
