Notes for Fleming W. CRIBBS

Quoting "THE TRADITIONAL POTTERY OF ALABAMA", page 40: "The pottery businesses remained healthy in Marion and Lamar Counties during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In 1900, Flem Cribbs was filling large orders for Birmingham and Bessemer, the New South industrial cities to the southeast [of Lamar county]."

The Birmingham Age-Herald newspaper, dated March 20, 1896 reported this: "SULLIGENT - Knocked from a Car and Killed - the second within four months. Flem Cribbs was knocked off a gravel car at the gravel pit near this place and instantly killed this morning about 9 o'clock. Mrs. Cribbs is crazed with grief and has not yet been brought to realize her situation. This is two good citizens of Sulligent that have been killed in a shocking manner within the last four months."

From The Vernon Courier, Date: June 5 1890
"MCADAMS – ZEIGLER
On last Wednesday, the 28th ult, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. FLEM CRIBBS, at Sulligent. Mr. JOHN MCADAMS and Miss ANNIE ZEIGLER were united in the Holy Bonds of Matrimony, Rev. T. M. WILSON officiating. Mr. MCADAMS and his fair bride left for Tuskaloosa, their home. We wish the happy couple a long and successful life."
