Notes for Richard III JORDAN

Richard Jordan III was born about 1668, son of Richard II & Elizabeth Jordan. His wife's name is not known but his will lists three sons. He died in 1751 in Surry County, Virginia.

The following is an excerpt from Richard III's will showing his three sons: Page 760: " RICHARD JORDAN Will. Date: 27 Dec. 1749. Rec. : 19 Nov. 1751. William Jordan, Executor. Sons: William, Benjamin and Joseph. Witnesses: William and John Cooper." (8)

Surry County Deeds, Wills, Etc. # 3 1684-1687 (p. 12) An involved deed of Phillip Hunniford to Joseph Wall dated 6 Dec. 1671. Joseph Wall and wife Susan Wall conveyed the land to Col. Richard Jordan Jr. on 18 Dec 1676 and it was recorded in May 1677. Richard Jordan, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth Jordan made a deed for 200 acres to Robert Littleboy on 4 Nov 1684. Wit: John Waller and Anthony (X) Evens.

Jordan Richard: Est. - 3 May, 1687, July 5th, Richard Jordan appeared in Court and made oath to the Inventory of Richard Jordan. Anthony Evans, Henry Norton, Nicholas Sessoms, Joseph Wall. Book 3, p. 86.

Jordan, Richard : Leg. - To son, Richard Jordan, the Land and Est. that I have to bestow on him. To my son, Charles the Land which was formerly Mr. Owens, being part of a tract where I now live.. and all working tools. To son, Robert that Plantation I do now live on that is to say the upper end of that land, after the death of my wife. If either son, Charles or Robert die without issue the land shall go to the longest liver: if both die without issue to be equally divided between my three youngest daughters, or the longest liver of the three. To daughter Rachel, loom, wheels, etc, To daughter, Elizabeth Fort a hog. To daughter Margaret Howse a hog. Daughter, Hannah ewe. Daughter Mary ewe. Daughter, Sarah ewe. Richd. Jordan Senr. bringing an accon to this Cort agt. Jno. Pittford for unlawfully killing a mrked. Hogg of his and praying the benefit of the 125th. Act of Assembly in the printed Laws agt. him, It is by the Cort referred to a Jury:..... Jurors. Theire Virdt. Wee find for the defendt. Upon the request Jno. Pittford the Jurys Virdt. is confirmed the suite dismist & the said Jordan Ordered to pay all the Costs als. Excn.

Jno. Pittford bringing an accon to this Cort agt. Tho. Waller for defaimeing & Scnadalizeing him by saying he had stolen a mrked. hogg of Richd. Jordans and praying a Jury to Examine the premises & award satisfaccin, It is therefore referred to a Jury.

(561) - 561 Administration is granted Rich. Jordan on ye. Estate of his deced. Father Rich. Jordan giveing security therefor according to Law.

(574) - 574 Rich. Jordan produceing an Inventory of the Estate of his deced. ffather & makeing oath thereto It is adimitted to Record.

In Obedience to an Ordr. of Councell dated 8br. ye. 24th. 1687 requireing that the Collonies? Justices of every County doe take an accot. of all the ablest Freeholders and Inhabitants in their respective Counties that are Quallified either by Estate or P____ _____ & maintaime a _____ & _____ to be listed in a Troope for that County or goe _______ when occation shall require and likewise an accot. of all other Freeholders & Inhabitants that are ffitt to be Listed for ffoot and returne the same to his Excelleny with all Convenient Speede, This Court haveing Considered the Capacities & abilities of the ffollowing person for Horse and ffoote as they are here severall set down ( vistz: )
