Sometime during the year 1768 Joseph and patience removed with their family to Northampton County, North Carolin a, and settled in a Quaker community known as Rich Square. They liked this community. Their children like it too. Richard like it so well that, when he ws of marriageable age, he married on of the rich Square girls.

At the age of twenty-five years, Richard Jordan became a Quaker minister muck interest in the Manumission of Slaves. He was so interested in this that between the yars 1790 and 1797 he attended sessions of the General Assembly of North Carolina, frequently to present his belief concerning slavery and pleading that they do something about this horribel practice.

Richard Jordan's concern over the slavery question was so convincing that his father, Joseph Jordan, on Auust 10, 1784, emancipated all of his slaves.

In 1797 and 1798, Richard JOrdan visited meetings in Virginia, Maryland and northward, as far as Mawsachusetts. Then in 1799, after he returned home, he began feeling a great concern to pay a religious visit to Friends in Europe. He decided to do this so, after visiting most of the Quaker meetings in North Carolina, Virginia, maryland, and Pennsylvania, he saided in Marth 1800 from New York for Europe. In his journal converning this trip, he wrote: " I was from home three years, one month, and ten days, and during this time I traveled by land and water about fifteen thousand miles. SOMETIME IN THE YEAR 1768 JOSEPH AND PATIENCE REMOVED WITH THEIR FAMILY TO NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, AND SETTLED IN A QUAKER COMMUNITY KNOWN AS RICH SQUARE. THEY LIKED THIS COMMUNITY. THEIR CHILDREN LIKED IT TOO. RICHARD LIKE IT SO WEE THAT, WHEN HE AS OF MARRIAGEABLE AGE, HE MARRIED ON OF THE RICH SQUARE GIRLS.

AT THE AGE OF TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, RICHARD JORDAN BECAME A QUAKER MINISTER MUCH INTERESED IN THE MANUMISSION OF SLAVES. HE WAS SO INTERESTED IN THIS THAT BETWEEN THE YEARS 1790 AND 2797 HE ATTENDED SESSIONS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBY OF NORTH CAROLINA, GREQUENTLY TO PRESENT HIS BELIEF CONCRINGING SLAVERY AND PLEADING THAT THEY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS HORRIBLE PRACTICE.

RICHARD JORDAN'S CONCERN OVER THE SLAVERY QUESTION WAS SO CONVINCING THAT HIS FATHER, JOSEPH JORDAN, ON AUGUST 10, 1784, EMANCIPATED ALL OF HIS SLAVES.

Was in Northampton in 1778
