Notes for Maria de Jesus Juaquina Maxima MORAGA

Head of household, widowed, white female, Joaquina was mother to 15 children, she was borh in Mexico,
as were her mother and father, they came to the US in 1850, she can read and write but cannot speak english. She was renting a house and living with two grandsons, 9 year old Carlos and 7 year old Frank Shinn. They both were born in California as was their mother, but Franks father was born in Arkansas.

Also on the census page is listed James M. Shinn, born May 1849, 51 years, a carpenter born in Arkansas, parents born in North Carolina.

Joaquina died of Carcinoma. Death reported by Mrs. C. V. Gottschalk of San Andreas, buried in San Andreas.

Joaquina is the wife of Carlos Noriega and the daughter of Jose Moraga whose brother Gabriel, explored and named the San Joaquin Valley. She moved to San Andreas from Robinson's Ferry in March 1894.
