Joaquin Murieta went to friends, Carlos and Joaquina Noriega to recover from a beating given by miners in San Andreas before 1850. They later stated that Murieta made a sucessful escape to Sonora, Mexico, substantiated by letters received by him thanking them for having hid him earlier. *2
