Mary, through her Mother Sarah Shelton can be traced back for 21 generations to ROBERT FITZWALTER "THE SURETY" a descendant of ALFRED THE GREAT and of CHARLEMAGNE who was the third Lord of Dunmow Castle and 27th descent from PHARMOND. he was the leader of the Magna Charta Barons and their army. He assumed the Cross, taking part in the seige of Damietta, after which he returned home and died in 1234. (The above record taken from; "The Magna Charta" Volume # 6).
