Notes for Martin GENTRY

Notes as per Jill Kern Orr;
All notes are from information donated to Broken Arrow Genealogy Society by David A. Wise. He joined the Sons of the Revolution on Martin and this material was approved by the SAR on August 18, 1994.

Martin Gentry, son of Jane Brown/Braxton and Nicholas Gentry II was born on September 11, 1747 in Hanover County, Virginia. During the American Revolution, Martin performed patriotic service to his country by "Serving as a guard to a runaway in Gosl. for 12 days". This appears in the Louisa County, Virginia Order Book: 1774-1782, on April 14, 1778.

Martin married Mary Timberlake, Daughter of Phillip Timberlake on January 12, 1766. Mary was born on August 12, 1748 in Louisa County, Virginia. Martin and Mary had the following eleven children: Bessie, Josiah, Bartlett, Patsie, Richard, Suckey, John, Pollie, Joel, Martin and Nancy.

He sold 150 acres of land to Bezeleel Brown in Albermarle County, Virginia on October 8, 1789 and probably moved to Kentucky soon afterwards. Martin settled around Richmond, Kentucky and died on April 22, 1827 in Richmond. He is reported to be buried in the Richmond Cemetery, Richmond County, Kentucky. His will was probated May 28, 1827 in Madison County, Kentucky. Mary Timberlake Gentry died later that year on November 19, 1827.
