"The John Herring family of North Carolina and Mississippi, A Narrative Report" by Robert Herring MD, lists a Joshua Herring born November 23, 1723, died April 1801, married Elizabeth Matchett in 1750. He had a Grandson named Joshua Herring who married Tempie Grice, born 1780. A copy of this book is at the NC Library in Raleigh. Robert Herring's book has allot of information about the life of the Herring Family.
