Notes for SUSANNAH POOLE:
According to William RASCO of HOOVER, AL, a descendant of Susannah POOL, researcher and author of "Our Rasco Family". James HERRING JR came to the Edgefield SC district in 1803. He married Susannah POOL, daughter of John POOLE. John POOLE deeded land to James and Susannah HERRING in Edgefield Co, SC. James and Susannah settled in the Cahawba(Cahaba) River Valley area of what is now Jefferson Co, just across the line from Shelby Co. They would have been living only a few miles from each other. According to Bill RASCO, several families took part in this migration including other POOLEs MITCHELLs and WILLIAMs. They are supposed to have been part of a group that establishedthe Mt Hebron Baptist Church in the Cahaba Valley.
Listed in the 1860 Census of Jefferson Co, Cahaba Valley section are James HERRING, age 80, b. S.Carolina and wife, Susan, age 78, b. S. Carolina
