donated it to the town to be used as the first public school to which
it was used for that very purpose until recently and is still standing

"William was granted a coat of arms in 1591 at the Somerset
Visitation. It is a blue shield with three fold escallops (the kind
that look like the Shell Gas shell, only upside down) one above the
other. William must have been religious because the escallop in
heraldic terms represents a pilgrimage to the Holy Land."
