Notes for Mozelle Alene SIMS

About 1921 when Mozelle was 8 years old, or so, until Gant died in 1924, she remembers living with Gant and Nancy Equilla after they adopted them. They were living in Texas. Mozelle remembers at about 4 or 5 years of age, while living with Gant and Equilla or visiting their home, she was mistreating a small white Terrier puppy. Equilla disciplined Mozelle for her mistreatment, that taught her to always be kind to all animals after that.

She remembers talking to Nancy Equilla and asking her why she had four long names. Equilla told her that her full name was NANCY EQUILLA BEAUREGARD HERRING. She gave no other reason that Mozelle could remember.

Mozelle finished 8th grade in Texas, stopped schooling after Gant died and she, as well as all of the rest of the children went to work. Mozelle worked at the Telephone Company. Dell met and married Harley Karr in Texas, and they all moved to California about 1927. Mozelle and the other children came along with them when they moved. In 1930 they lived near Long Beach, California. Mozelle married Robert Rubottom in 1933.

In 1945 Joyce (Rubottom) Lawson remembers Aunt Bennie living in Garden Grave and working there. Barbara (Rubottom ) Lawson remembers as she was growing up that George and Dorothy Sims, as well as Billy and Dolly Sims were all living in Garden Grove CA. Dorothey and Dolly were sisters. They were all living near Dell and Harley Karr.
